Invisible Struggle of ADHD

I teach you to “embrace your weird,” and implement systems that work with the idiosyncrasies of your unique brain, rather than against them.

What is ADHD Coaching?

I take a practical approach to your lifestyle through an ADHD-informed lens. We live in a society that wasn’t constructed for people with unique ways of thinking, like us “neurodivergent” folks. So often the reason that we’re not meeting expectations is because they reflect the expectations we’ve learned to have of people with typical brains.
Together you and I will redesign our expectations and, most importantly, create unique systems of approaching your life that set you up for success. This creates a snowball effect leading to more progress in reaching goals, clarity, and confidence from finally seeing yourself meeting expectations on a regular basis!

How is my coaching different from others?

tons of resources icon

tons of
resources!

As a social media influencer and a neuropsychology student, I have an extraordinary amount of resources available to me in terms of educational information, connections to helpful professionals, and partnerships with helpful product and service companies. These will be incorporated wherever possible.

Longer
sessions!

While many coaches offer a 45 minute to 1-hour session each week, I understand the unique nature of my clientele and their tendency to have disjointed dialogue due to their executive functioning issues. Therefore, my sessions last 1 ½ – 2 hrs., allowing enough time to effectively communicate and investigate issues, discuss appropriate tactics, and set up accountability tools to ensure clarity and follow-through.

I want to make sure that you aren’t overwhelmed by the idea of a big added expense with no end in sight.

Therefore, I have put together an outline of our journey together, so that you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Please keep in mind that this is based on progress benchmarks rather than time, since each client will have their own unique issues and rate of progress.

Your Coaching Journey

stage 1
stage1 img

building systems

1 session per week. In this stage we will be combing through each aspect of your daily life and identifying practices that aren’t suiting you. We will investigate how your mind is motivated, and what kinds of tactics are effective. This will take a lot of trial and error – sometimes to an exhausting degree, but if you trust the system, we are bound to find effective solutions. Over time we will also encounter unforeseen circumstances, and see how our new systems and tactics hold up in adversity.
stage 2
stage2 img

self-regulation

1 session every 2 weeks. At this point you have developed a consistent mindset that begins to approach solutions effectively on your own. Some clients say that they start to hear my voice in their head guiding them through problem-solving their lives. It is extremely important to fully work through Stage 1 before moving to Stage 2. Moving too quickly can lead to a level of backsliding that is counter-productive to progress. This will lead to a feeling of spinning your wheels, and not seeing steady progress. Therefore, Stage 2 is by invitation only, when I feel you are ready.
stage 3

accountability & Re-calibration

1 session per month. At this point you have all of your main systems in place, you have seen how they hold up in adversity, and you are regularly adapting your own systems to fit your life as it changes. You are successfully advocating for your own needs in your environment without my help. We check in together to assess progress, goals, life satisfaction levels, and make sure there hasn’t been any major backsliding into old habits.
stage 4

alumni

As needed. You have shown a consistent ability to accurately assess and troubleshoot your life and habits, and establish routines that work for you as your needs change. We all need an outside perspective that we trust once in a while when life gets complex and confusing – that’s what I’m here for at this point.

What to Expect

what to expect I1.1

this is a partnership

No one knows you and your situation better than you do. Therefore, the best person to solve your problems is you. You took a proactive step in seeking me out as a coach, which shows that you are not someone who makes excuses for yourself or expects the world to cater to you (nice work!).
I am here to investigate the logistical dynamics in your life, and offer guidance and tools to help you construct new ways of approaching day-to-day activities.
However, only you know what is best for your brain, and why something does or doesn’t work for you. It’s up to you to decide and communicate what is or isn’t resonating with you, and whether or not a certain tactic is helpful. I am a solutions-based coach, so I ask that communication always be proactive in nature.

Rather than spending an entire session stewing in grief, these sessions should be spent quickly discarding that which isn’t serving us, and using it to inform our next tactic. But by all means – please take the time to process that grief with your therapist! It’s valid, and important!

It takes a village...

An ADHD coach should be a supplement to your total care, and not a replacement for essential professionals who treat you, such as therapists and medical doctors.

therapist

A therapist is there to help you process trauma, and illuminate problematic thinking patterns that may be sabotaging your life, satisfaction, and well-being. There are a large variety of therapies that can cater to your specific needs in assessing your mental health, addressing sensitive topics, and navigating interpersonal conflict and dysfunction. While they can diagnose disorders, many therapists choose not to pathologize their clients, and leave any neurological diagnoses like ADHD to psychologists and psychiatrists.
doctor

doctor

Doctors can diagnose and treat your ADHD with medication. However, the large majority of doctors who prescribe for this aren’t fully educated and experienced with proper titration methods and all available options. Many even are led by harmful stigmas. I can help you find a good informed doctor who understands the nuance around ADHD, and I can help you with effective communication in your appointments so that you can get the most effective medical treatment possible. Medication isn’t a cure-all, and it only works when you remember to take it! I’m here to help you navigate all of this.
psychologist

psychologist

There are different types of psychologists. Those who have a PhD are educated with a basis in empirical research, and have more extensive schooling. Those who have a PsyD have a more limited education that is practically focused. Both can conduct assessments and recommend treatment. Some can prescribe medication based on their specific regional qualifications. This is a great professional to go to if you are looking for a thorough analysis of which disorders you qualify under, as there are many that are commonly comorbid with ADHD. I of course recommend a PhD with a neurological disorder like ADHD, as they will be more scientifically-minded in nature.
